WOVEN SHIBORI FOR TEXTURAL EFFECTS (2010)  (58pp)    Downloadable PDF 15€

This monograph, written in 2010, follows a series of samples exploring the potential of using woven shibori to create textural surfaces.  Beginning with seersucker and using differential shrinkage to create the effects, warp and weft shibori elements are used to create additional puckering and folds to give more sophisticated results which have an organic feel to them.  Whilst shibori can be used with as few as 4 shafts, multi-shaft looms give greater variety in textures.  The samples for the monograph were woven on a 24S AVL and most of the designs are for 16 – 24 shafts.  Despite that, the principles behind the technique are easily converted to 8 shafts.

The original publication is now out of print but, due to continuing demand, the monograph has been put into pdf.  (Please note that the cover image has been changed for this pdf version.)  It has 58 pages and weaving drafts and images of all samples are included.  The book contains:

  • Background research – including methodology, photography
  • Seersucker – Methods, drafts, images, shrinkage chart
  • Shibori – Weaving Shibori on 8 shafts, shibori samples (24shafts), including Regular Shibori, Waves & Dunes, and Volcanoes & Craters, Interpretation of Results and Shrinkage Chart
  • Conclusions, and Resources

What is a pdf?    A PDF is a downloadable e-document with exactly the same content as the original book, but not in physical form.  That means that if you want to have a physical book in your hand and you order a pdf, you will need either to take it to a printing firm to get it printed out into book form, or print it yourself from your computer.

Please email me with your postal address (a French legal requirement) and your preferred email address to stacey@theloomroom.co.uk and I shall send you an invoice with a couple of payment choices. Once the payment has been received I shall email you a link to a Dropbox file so you can download your pdf.

I do hope that you enjoy the monograph, and thank you for your interest!
